$1,591 towards $1,500

On October 7, 2018, I will be running my second full 26.2-mile marathon, The 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The Chicago Marathon is one of the largest races in the country and it is also one of the biggest fundraisers for many local and national charities. I am so excited to be running it for Team Salute. Salute, Inc., is an amazing organization that provides assistance for injured veterans and their families.

If you know me, you know that I must be crazy for running a second marathon (and no, its not for #onemorekid like last time, haha!) In order for me to even think about running another whopping 26.2 miles, it must be for an amazing cause! This time around, I am incredibly lucky to be running the Chicago Marathon with my best friend, Kimi Wolter. After running my first marathon, the 2015 TCS NYC Marathon, Kimi and I decided to run a marathon together (her first marathon) and we both decided on Chicago.

While Kimi was lucky (she's always the lucky one) and got into the marathon with the lottery entry, we decided that I would enter through a charity. We both researched online for the "perfect charity," one that spoke to us both and found Salute, Inc. In July of 2008, Kimi served in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. While she was lucky to have had the support from her husband, Chris (who is also a U.S. Army Veteran) and her family and friends and came back home safe and injury free, many of her fellow soldiers were not as lucky as her. She witnessed many of them struggle emotionally, mentally, physically and financially and often shared this information with me. For many of these soldiers, their struggles did not end when their deployment was over—these struggles carried on long after they were home, and still continue even today!

Salute, Inc. is an amazing organization that provides assistance to injured veterans and their families for everyday bills like rent, food, utilities and car payments. If you decide to donate to Salute, Inc., these proceeds go straight to programs that better the lives of veterans in the Chicago area.

Please consider donating even a small amount of money, any amount is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you in advance to all of my friends and family who are supporting me in reaching my goal!!! See you at the finish line in October!!!
