I'm running in memory of two fallen soldiers Chuck Fortenberry and William Newgard, and in honor of my grandfather, Edward Shupe, my mom Geraldine Golemo and SFC [R] Dana Bowman.

Chuck Fortenberry was a helicopter pilot in the Iraq war who maneuvered his aircraft to draw enemy fire away from ambushed soldiers. All of the soldiers survived, Chuck did not. He was the husband of my college roommate Cindy and father of their two sons Alex and Nick.

PFC William Newgard, U.S.Army, was a former student at Thomas Middle School. During the Iraq war Will was killed in Baghdad when a roadside bomb exploded next to the vehicle he was in. Both of these men, and many others paid the ultimate price in the service to our country. Please help me to honor them.

I am also running to honor a close friend of mine SFC [R] Dana Bowman, who lost his legs 25 years ago in a Golden Knights parachuting accident. He is a double amputee who still proudly parachute jumps with his 2000 square foot American flag at various events throughout the country. As Dana would say, "It's not the disability...it's the ability".

When my mom was terminally ill, her one goal was to be able to walk again and because of her illness, she wasn't able to achieve that goal. She sure gave it her best attempt, and I will continue to honor her each step of everyday I'm on this Earth, and especially in the 26.2.

Running has been a huge part of my life for many years and although my body is not capable of doing what it once did, I can still proudly put one foot in front of the other for 26.2 miles for those who can't and raise funds for our Veterans.

Along with that, I can listen to some great tunes along the course from my playlist made up of not only Neil Diamond tunes, but songs from my friends and family to keep me running. Thanks!

I also have a great time training and enjoying the "TEAM SALUTE" gatherings we have throughout the 16 weeks leading up to race day!

"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift."
